Maybe I'm being a bit thick but does the gasket go copper side or shiny side down? [)]

Most H/G I've dealt with have 'TOP' embossed on one side.

All the perkins 4108 head gaskets have "front" stamped on them (at the front strangely) if you cant see "front" at the front when you are fitting then its upside down and the front is at the back

but thats a dirty oil burner - dont know about that new fangled petrol lark
