Half shaft removal

has anyone experience of half shaft removal? I need to replace a rear hub oil seal. I do not have the special tool!
Advice appreciated.

If you trawl through my Jennings Restoration thread, there‘s a pic of a plate you can make up to pull the bearing off the shaft. Sorry I‘m on a carp wifi connection, taking me ages!!!!:(
 
The half shaft should come out quite easily but if it's playing silly buggers then a slide hammer will shift it.
 
I made a slide hammer out of 18inches of heavy duty pipe and a longer length of 20mm steel bar with a big lump welded on the end. Then I weld whatever device I need on the other end to connect with whatever I want to pull out, if you see what I mean. It's crude but effective, but I am careful not to get my fingers caught when using it!:rolleyes:
 
Thanks for advice, pulled half shaft aand bearing out by hand. Made a plate like ethe one shown and pulled bearing off against nut, quite a a battle!
new oil seal on order................

Would it be possible to post a pic of the puller you made 'in action' so to speak, for future reference for anyone who may need to do the same job at some point.
 
I made mine out of 3/8 plate and it needed the holes counter boring as the bolts are only just long enough for perhaps 3/16 plate.
It needed a lot of force to move the bearing
 
Fairly old post but hoping can help. Trying hard to get the half shafts out but they won’t budge. I’ve removed all the bolts from the back plate disconnected the brake line and I assume it should then come out. I’ve put the wheel back on as a basic slide hammer but it’s not budging. Should these come out easily or have I missed something here? Looking at slide hammers I’m not sure how I’d connect one to the hub or is there a special connector needed? Heeeelp I’m freezing out here :) thanks guys

its one way i guess but we’re pretty stuck. Ended up buying the slidehammer dodgeram recommended, the silver connector thing fitted perfect and they both came out with a good few whacks
