Grinding noise when braking.

My van's was the same as yours Andrew, both clutch and brake reservoirs under the drivers feet with the removable access plates for topping up.
 
There both under there,beast enough to get to. I've topped them both up. I'm going to check for any leaks later. Have you still got the van Stephen.

BTW, if the one on the left needed topping up that'll be the clutch reservoir.

I've taken my van for a run this morning, it doesn't appear to be making as much of a grinding noise now I've checked the levels.

I know, just finding the time. Can it be checked on a Jack or is it better to put in onto a ramp?

Hi had a look under my van and I can't see any obvious signs of either master cylinder leaking, both the resovoirs are now topped up. Waiting on a friend and then we are going to clean the drums. Does antone recconend a good brake cleaner?

How will I know what to look for on the shoes inside my brake drums? Once I've taken the front of the drum off what am I going to find?

First thing to check is if the brake dust has been turned to paste, this would indicate if there is a serious leak on one of the cylinders. I had the smallest of leaks but the brakes snatched badly on the first application, I only found the seals were leaking by prising the dust cover on the end of the cylinder back - it should be dry in there but I found brake fluid. Next is to see how much lining is left on the shoes. A couple of pics would help to identify any problems.
