Greasing.

What a so and so, I've done them all. Lovely new grease is flowing out. But what a job I've been doing it most of the day. In the end I had to clean the hole where the nipple is and jack the van up. What a lovely popping noise new grease makes.

I'm still having problems with one nipple. It's the second nipple joint from the bottom directly behind the wheel. I've jacked my van up to take the weight off the but it still doesn't appear to be taking grease. Should I take the nipple off and spray some wd40 into the hole at the opening of the joint. It's the last nipple I've got to do. I'm pretty sure no grease is going in as I can't see any escaping.

Take the nipple out and make sure it's clear but don't squirt WD into the joint, you'll was what grease is there away, just scrape out any hard grease with a thin screwdriver. If you still cant get any in try heating the area up gently, a heat gun would be best but you could try a fan heater directed on the area for a couple of hours to try and soften the grease.

Hi I've taken out the grease nipple, it's taking grease fine. After that I cleaned up the hole in the joint, but it still won't take any grease. I'm going to try and put some heat through it over the weekend. After that I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Try with some load on the wheel, that is lower the jack until the suspension has compressed slightly. Failing that you could as you local garage to use their air fed grease gun to try and force some in, if nothing works then just keep running it and keep trying to get some in, it will eventually wear out and need to be replaced - but that could be years away.

How about a hair dryer to heat the area? It's the only thing I can find.

You can try but it will take an awful long time, you really do need to warm it through - and you missus will freak out if she spots you;)

Aussie Commer had the same thing, he couldn't get grease into one before he went on his road trip, halfway round it seized up and snapped off [xx(]

I've managed to secure a blow torch, will this be ok to hear the grease. Obviously I don't want it to snap off, is it just because the old grease is so hard?

I would be wary using a blow torch, you don't want to set fire to anything[B)]
I think you would be best asking the garage to try with their grease gun.

Your right, it's getting on my nerves. All the other nipples are taking grease, there's just so much pressure on the last one the grease just won't go in.

Is it because there's old grease in the joint that it won't let the new grease through?

The old grease can harden and block things up. Careful heating can melt it and allow the new grease to push the old out.

Yes the old grease has probably set good and hard[V]
If it was me I would very carefully use the blow torch and keep a hose pipe nearby, but I don't want to recommend you to use it in case it goes horribly wrong:I
Remember there are rubber seals on the out side of the joints as well.
