Grease gun.

Hi, I have been given a laser grease gun(bulk loading gun). But when I pull the piston back it doesn't stay at the back of the gun it springs forward. So I can't get the grease in before it springs forward. Am I doing something wrong?

If it's like mine there is a handle attached to a chain that pulls the piston back, the chain link locks into a slot where it pulls through the hole. Load it by putting the end of the tube in a tub of grease and pull back on the piston, like a syringe, and lock the chain in the slot. Screw the tube back into the gun then release the chain from the slot to put the grease under pressure - there should be a bleed nipple somewhere to expel the air otherwise the gun wont pump grease.

No good it won't lock, I've tried drawing grease up but that doesn't work either.

Will the piston lock if you twist the handle?

No, that's the problem. It should have a little piece of metal on the piston that locks when you pull the piston back and twist but there's nothing there. No worries I will keep a look out for a new one. I'm gutted because I wanted to do some greasing tomorrow, on well penny more to be getting on with. I have finished my roof, the new material I put in has worked really well.

Can you wedge a piece of wood or something in between the handle and the top of the piston tube to hold it in place.

OK, my last idea is to split a piece of tube (copper would be good) enough to fit over the piston shaft.

That might work, will try that tomorrow. The cooper will hold the end of the piston, hope it works.

Hi panky I took my grease gun to my local motor factors and they swapped if for me.fair play as I didn't get it from there. I just need a 0891 nylon flexi hose for my laser 0240 gun.

Yeah they said they would, I know the guy really well. I think it was because it's the same one that they stock.
