Glass fitting tips.

Got a replacment glass for drivers door off Martin M.[^].
Now all i need are some hint & tips on how to fit it please,be much appreciated as i`m rubbish at this sort of thing:I.

It's a tricky job, nothing seems to go together!
I think the trick is to keep the central pillar (between the quarterlight and the main window) very loosely bolted while you are putting it all in place, then tighten it up once you have evrything in place.
There is an old thread about it somewhere..

Found this but not much help as the pic has disapeared:I

I think you will need to get the window chanels out, I refitted mine after about ten years lying inside the van - I think they are just pushed in. I fitted new chanels as the originals had rotted out and had to make new support brackets for the bottom:I.

Yes taking the window channels out helps, like Panky says they just prise out, however, look carefully as they may be pop riveted in (an after factory mod) Take the door card off and undo the 3 screws holding the 1/4 lights frame and the one screw holding the central pillar....remove the window channels and then the 1/4 light and the door glass will all but fall out.....:D

I've had both of mine apart and it was a little fiddly both times.

I needed to take the entire door frame assembly apart, and the channels out. Removing the bolts for the winder assembly door lock helps.

Remove the bottom stop (4 philips screws (at least one will snap off!)) and make sure you replace it when you are putting it all together again (bin there done that!)

the 4 (?) screws that hold the quater light into the frame need to be taken out, so also does the quater lite rubber (a good chance to clean it up and add your name to Martin's quaterlite rubber wishlist!)

Also while you're there, ask martin for a new lip seal (and clips!) and make sure you have a lip to attach it to! Its the last thing to go on and you will need to fasion a magic tool to fit the clips. That said you could go down the Panky route and fit a bit of bling chrome.

Hope that helps

Rupert
