3rd gear not improving on adjusting the selector rod. 1st not feeling great either, sort of need to force or coax it in to gear Checked the reservoir under the floor and cant see any fluid just a silver plate near the top. Question is should that be full to the top, do I need to bleed it somewhere if I top it up and will normal brake fluid be the stuff to use.

Yes it should be full with normal dot 3 or 4 fluid. Peel back the dust covers on the master and slave cylinders to see if either are weeping. The bleed nipple is on the slave cylinder.

yes lets. The one I saw didn't look like it was weeping but didn't know there were two. I'll check em both tomorrow and top up. I guess open the nipple and pump the pedal a few times and nip it up.
The master cylinder is where you were looking for the fluid and the slave cylinder is on the side of the gearbox close to the starter motor.
It's a two handed job, get the missus in the drivers seat to push the pedal while you bleed the nipple - push pedal, open nipple, close nipple release pedal
