gearboxes/overdrives

BTW : I saw a Hillman Hunter 5 speed gearbox on Ebay recently - would this have been an error or possibly a late model option ?

But I'm still liking the overdrive switch in / switch out for some lazy Commer cruising though [8D]

No 5 speed Hunter box as far as I know. Unless it's a competition special. Probably a normal o/d box and they don't know it's a 6 speed!

Peggy's going camping!

If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

LOL, Ray, I don't have a diagram but I should be home early 2moz, I will try and take some pics of how I did mine and try to describe it in detail if that helps mate...?

this is an avenger or talbot sunbeam gearbox and willNOT fit the commer
5 speed avengers used a special bellhousing made by skip brown mated to a ford type 9 gearbox

I've got the diagram from the Commer manual but my scanner had packed up (again[V]) If I can get it working I'll post it on here for you.

Here's one Martin drew and the one out of the manual. Lets see which one comes out the clearest. If you email me I can send you the files if it's any better.

Good luck Ray...

If you can't find anything wrong with the electrics, I found that when I set mine up gospel to the manual it simply would not work!!!

If you look at previous pics I posted you can see mine is clearly not as per manual and it works just fine..

Right tested solenoid - that works.

So, if i select 3rd or 4th with the ignition on, the supply to the solenoid should be 'live' right???

Assuming you have taken a live to the switch from the fusebox with an in line fuse, don't overlook the obvious and check the fuses...I have 20 amp fuses in mine...

If you have a volt meter work your way all the way from the fusebox and this should at least tell you where the problem lies.

eg/ firstly put the positive from volt meter to the fusebox terminal and negative to earth (bodywork) next check the power is getting to the switch...if its live there move onto the relay and so on...

sorry if i may seem like I'm stating the obvious, then again it might just find the problem:D

don't worry, the obvious is good!

if i by-pass the inhibitor switch... assume i will do damage if i drive it like that?? it will be engage permanently
