Gearbox/Engine queries

I have a Humber Sceptre Mk2 Engine, gearbox and o/d that I have acquired. I have seen on other topics that the rapier donated gb needs to have the belhousing changed to the commer one to fit properly. Do I need to do the same with the humber's? It is the Sceptre mk2 (not the hunter shape) and appears to be upright in the engine bay from piccies I have seen. So, I guess this would negate the need to change the bellhousing?

Also, the engine I have is rated at about 70 BHP (according to the interweb). How much of an improvement is this over the standard commer engine?

Measure the bellhousing from flange to flange - if it's the same then there should be no problem with the linkages - just the prop mod. It might be worthwhile swapping the flywheels over so you can use the bigger clutch (as long as the input shaft splines match).

Thanks for the answers. I think I have enough to go on now - and I think I will recondition the sceptre engine and gearbox. Need to get some dummy shafts made to refurb the gb. Never taken a gearbox apart before. So far I have removed the od and taken off the bellhousing. Looks quite straight-forward compared to the imp transaxle.
