gearbox case...

next one now...small seep from the top of the gearbox I want to fix. Can the top casing be removed (where the linkages go in) simply so I can reseal or is there springs ect that are going to cause issue...the leak is tiny so not a major problem if it is involved.

cheers

Jim

Nothing's going to fly out if you take the alloy casting off. I did mine just before I put the box back in for the same reasson. Helpful if you get it into neutral before you take it off so it's easier to put back on. There is a thin steel plate between the alloy and the gearbox casing, so there are two paper gaskets. I discarded these and used instant gasket, and it has been much better than before.

With the top casting off, you can have a good look to see if anything major is floating around inside!

thanks for the info Colin...will give it a go then. Finding neutral, draft question... I guess if the front shaft spins and the rear doesn't I've found it (it's off the car already)
