3rd gear has always been a right pain on the van, 1st isn’t great but acceptable. Where i can drive it ok I’d really want my partner to drive it but she would struggle. 3rd you really have to feel it in gently but firmly with another pull towards you as is going in, like there’s a resistance (2nd and forth are perfect). Bushes are pretty new. I know the ball joint piece can be wound in or out but I’m thinking it’s probably the up and down selection rather than left to right as it’s seems to be 1st and 3rd, anyone know if that Can that be adjusted or if people think the ball joint may still fix it? Thanks all
 
I couldn't get first and second on my maiden Commer drive but trial and error adjusting what you said found them. Mind you, I've just changed a broken Ka clutch pressure plate with similar symptoms, stiff 2nd to 3rd and crunching reverse.
 
You can adjust the change rod for forward and back movement by winding the block, that's attached to the linkage to the gear box, along the thread on the change rod.
