Gear linkage modification

so can anyone explain how you would go about adapting gear linkages[?] im seriously considering putting a more modern engine and box in dolly, nothing to fancy[8)] i was considering either a decent diesel (something like an ldv or p100 diesel) or a petrol 1.8 sierra lump for example. but whats worrying me is i have no idea about gear linkages [V]:( and although i can find some helpful pics on here i cant seem to make sense of anything[xx(] can anyone post a couple of example pics and explain please[?]

i was also considering something a little special ;) something involving a 1.6 Escort RST lump, a 1.8 sierra gearbox and a modified air intake [8D] but dont know if i wanna tackle that challenge :I

Jon has done lots of work on gear linkages connected to the Ford TDI so have a look through his threads (there's even a vid on it working somewhere:)) Personally I wouldn't bother with the Pinto, reputation for eating cams and you could do the same amount of work and put a decent engine in like a Vauxhall red top if you want to go the petrol route;)

cool, going to study that well. i wasnt thinking pinto mate, was thinking CVH lump (or are they the same thing?) did consider a zetec but that seemed a bit TOO modern lol

If you are going to change then it can't be too modern - 1800 Zetec is a belter[8D]
If I were to go down that route then that would be my engine of choice. Either that or a red top;)

yh i was considering zetec, out of interest what makes you say 1.8 zetec and not 2.0?

Nothing wrong with the 2 litre I guess but it's thirstier, I was talking to a taxi driver who was running a 1.8 and, after owning both, thought the 1.8 was superior. I've got a 1.8 Focus and I love the engine - torquey, pretty pokey and fairly economical:)

i must admit i have owned a 1.8 orion zetec and a 2.0 mondeo zetec and i think i prefered the orion. may consider that option. now if i can figure out how to make that adapter for the gearbox i will be sorted, maybe i should drop jon a message and see if he can give me details or maybe evan make me 1 for a price lol

When I get time ive got something I want to do to the original rootes commer engine before i wave it goodbye. I want to run some boost through it, to see how long it will last and how it will handel it. Ive got the parts to do it just time is really tight at the mo. I need to retire like panky and play with my own cars and vans all day;)

I've got more to do than play with cars all day - I've got to fit my Sterling engines in as well:)
