Fumes

Hi People,

We've just had the Colonel's starter motor and fuel pump fixed and everything appears to be hunky dory (apart from an oil seal leak). We took him out for a small spin, but after a few minutes we were getting overcome with fumes. We can't definitely say what the fumes were, but they were a bit 'petrolly' if you know what I mean.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It's fastened down OK, but there is a gap in the rubber seal of about 3 inches. It looks like it was done on purpose though as it is very neat.
The gap is in the middle of the hatch at the end where it fastens down.

Are you still having camera troubles? photo of gap might help if possible - imagine any gap will cause cab fumage. Not sure what to say about petroly smell if everything looks tight and secure. There is a little drain in the inlet manifold which can dribble petrol about 10 minutes after switching off but don't know if it smelling whilst driving.[xx(]

Z&D, where does the exhaust exit, and is it within the width of the body? The tailpipe needs to extend out beyond body width by a couple of inches, otherwise it will draw in fumes. Also check that the back door seal is sound.
 
Hi everyone.

The exhaust pipe definitely does not extend past the body of the van at all, and the back door probably isn't totally sealed. Must have a look at it in the morning, and will get a photo of the gap on asap....
