Fridges

just a note for peeps regarding fridges. whether you have a two way fridge (12v and gas) or you have a three way fridge (12v, 240v, and gas) the gas runs the fridge, the 240v mains runs the fridge but the 12v is just a tickover, this means you have to gas or mains the fridge first for say an hour then switch to 12v which will then keep it at that temperature, so if you stop somewhere and just bang the fridge on 12v it may get a bit cooler but not much and flatten the battery very quickly, this is particularly relevant if you have a freezer compartment. hope this helps people get the best from commer camping

I only run mine whilst driving so it will keep the ice blocks chilled a little longer - then switch it off just before arriving anywhere

If I could drink then I could quote the advert....

'well you wouldn't want a warm beer, would you?'

Mine's one of those crap gas only ones. The fun I've had lighting the pilot flame, it's not fair to heap all that joy on one man, It's a bit dodgy when you pulled up at a site, managed to light the flippin thing and then the petrol smell from the overflowing carb permeates the van, like I said to much fun for one man. I think I'd better invest in a lekky one but that means hook-ups, wires and stuff and I like me camping a bit wilder. What a dilemma, what should I do :(

I have one of those coolboxes that you can get easily (Argos?) etc which runs 12 volts, just plugs into fan lighter. Works quite well, costs about £40

Cheers
