Fontaine's first week

Thank you chris - i shall pass the tip on to Martin, i felt so bad! Things got even worse, we had to get cara back to the hospital after some complications so she has had another night courtesy of the NHS (and their ineptability) and i've had 2hrs sleep [:0]

HOWEVER, i have sorted the gearbox now, it is the exact one from the ehgine so fingers crossed this is as low mileage as the guy says!

Panky, we had a problem with the gearbox, i had a second but the bell housing was different from 8mm. So we swapped them over and then realised the bolts wouldn't fit[:(!] We had spent so long trying to figure it out, we hit a real low point! But after chatting about it, and us both saying the engine isn't great anyway - we have decided to get a new one in. So we (for ease) have got a 2.0l pinto engine, with only 55,000 on it along with the gearbox etc and tim and chris have kindly accepted the challenge....

Its going to cost more cake though! i have to make another anyway to prove that i actually DID make it - photo's will be provided this time as evidence!! I can't believe all the other cake has almost gone - i am shocked and awed :D

We don't have much choice Fontaine is stuck with out it [8D]
nice up-grade & engine sounds good,you will need to up-date the 1600 auto badge too.

Ah bummer! Forgot about that! Maybe we shall leave it and stealthily overtake pesky VW's - they won't know whats hit them! We'll change that (have you a silver marker pen!) and also, i think we may as well get the add on indicators off as well - i think that will please a few people!! That eagle think needs to go too.

Looking back over the thread when this van was for sale it read that Jon was going to put the pinto 2.0 engine in. Did you do that Jon??

just been back to the dump & was asked "you haven't got rid of your beetle have you?" :I I replied I haven't got a beetle [:0]

I told him I was there a couple of days ago my starters gone so I had to come in the car,I didn't have that much rubbish to use the van any way,just cleared so room in the back of no.1 [^]

no.1 is getting smaller :( but it is getting easier to get to the bits that need welding :p& I am learning loads from you lot :D[}:)]:D Don't you love that feeling when you get rid of loads of rubbish [^]

We had Jon & cara round yesterday took cara for a couple of spins in the riley,really cheered her up :D[}:)]:DWhile we were out picked up some bits for Fontaine while the boys worked on the engine [8D]
More progress today :pready to pull one out & chuck another in...

Ohhh look what we have here..
I think we've all gone a bit cake mad this month but if it keeps spirits high and helps patch Fontaine up then how can any of us say no(especially Tim)?!
This was made for Jons birthday only we noticed something a little wrong with it

Fontaines heart bypass will hopefully be completed soon,

Had a great day with Commerchris and Commeracer yesterday,oh and Chris even gave us a surprise with Fontaines front facing backseats..whhhhhhhhhat...we had no idea so thankyouuuu!

P.s Especially enjoyed the trip out in The Riley..totally in love with her splutters and bangs and colour and seats and windows and mirrors..list could go on :)

yep, ended up painting the black one, due to gasket error :I
cambelt done, manifolds swapped and the other one all ready to lift out :p

Looks good all nice and blue! Tomorrow I shall get a set of core plugs and was it a crank seal we need? I just thought - may be a stupid question but is there a thermostat on the newer engine? The one on the old one was a little bit suspect,or the bit that was telling us when we were overheating was. I'm glad the manifold swapped over ok, does that mean the exhaust should be ok where it is?

don,t worry about the crank seal.a new cake thermostat would be good [^].
the wire connecting to the temp sender unit was a bad connection, which would explain erratic temp readings. exhaust will stay the same [8D]

Cool, they are only a few pennies. Do we need the housing for it too? I have a job Wednesday morning, but could be down for about 2 (i would say 1 but seeing as we are often delayed....!) if that is good for you? Thurs afternoon is possible too as well as Friday.

Could you pop some pics on of the way the engine is mounted please as this is the one with the pinto in isnt it???[?][?];)
