Floaty Steering

Hi,

Can someone tell me if there is a way to tighten up the steering box to stop my van handling like a fat kid on ice skates?

Pics of where to adjust would be great!

I'd check the relay lever for play first (mounted on the o/s chassis leg opposite side to the master cyl's), get someone to rock the steering wheel, while you look for play.
If it is the box, they tend to wear in the middle of the screw, so tigtening too much can cause more damage. The adjuster and locknut, are located on the box, inside the black rubber boot.
Tracking out of line, can also make it feel floaty ;)

Yes, so you could check how your front tyres are wearing.

Also, worn shock absorbers don't help. I'd check them for bounce and leaks, if you haven't already:)
 
The intermediate steering relay lever was an advisory on our last MOT and we got the repair pin from speedies which worked a treat. It took a lot of play out of the steering. You could see the play best at the top of the pin where the spring is, it was most obvious when the front was jacked up if you pulled on the ends of the lever. Make sure you get the bushes too (ours needed reaming). Also the pin was incredibly difficult to get out requiring heat and a press. The King pins helped but not so much. Tyre pressure made a really big difference though so check them first!
