I improved our wash/wipe operations yesterday by adding a sprung Lucas rocker switch to the dash to operate the washer, which only operates whilst it's being held. Being next to the wiper switch I can now do this simultaneously and with one hand ! A simple mod but this has made a big difference. Previously the washer switch was below the dash by my left knee and wasn't sprung so it had to switched on and then off, to flick the wipers too required right handed action for the wipers - look mum no hands [:0]

I'm now wanting to add a similar sprung rocker switch to the dash to flash the headlights, seems pretty easy to do for a dipped flash but ideally I'd like a full beam full so it also works when the dipped are already on. I just need to suss the wiring mod, has anybody done something similar or suggestion the full beam wiring for this ?

Finally, I'm looking to move the hazard switch to the old push/pull wash/wipe location when I can get a suitable push/pull illuminated hazard switch to fit. So using the existing rocker switch locations on my dash the layout will be (l to r)

Heater fan
Wiper switch
Washer switch
Side/Head light switch
Flasher switch

From the workshop manual I see that the later Dodge vans have a multi function switch upgrade to the indicator stalk - wow, this must be about as 'modern' as these vans ever got ;)
 
Well done. I found that was a worthwhile mod. I put a spring-button washer switch on the wiper switch

I also fitted a spring button switch to give a twin "thank you" flash with one press. This is also handy but probably not really worth it as it took a while to do with 2 relays etc.

I made a similar mod to my van a few years ago, I dumped the colostomy bag that hung off a bracket by the passenger door and fitted a washer bottle/motor unit from a Fiesta, I decided I'd fit it under one of beds so it was out of view, a quick bit of plumbing and some simple electrical work meens all I have to do now is push a red button located under the wiper switch.

Relays ??? [:0] You mean you didn't use twisted thin bell wire and wooden cocktail sticks like our DPO ;)

I guess the relays mean very little current is routed through the switch, definately the best solution for reliability. Given the existing lack of relays for lighting do you think I could get away without them using correct rated wiring (just for full beam whilst the switch is down)? Unless you've got a piccy though of your interesting relay setup I could clone ... ;)

BTW: I like the warning lights with symbols, expect an order very soon to replace our virtually invisible indicator and full beam lamps.
 
I had to build some relays by modifying some that came with driving lights - I didnt do a diagram beforehand sorry, just kept adding wires till it finally worked - I wouldnt bother doing it again. And it isnt really worthwhile unlike the washer modification.
