flasher unit and fuel gauge and now not starting

As some of you know we are new to this! and we are learning all the time,but coming back from martins i lost my indicators and then the fuel gauge stopped working. when getting home i checked the fuse and it had blown and replaced it. but now she will not start. had a new battery and coil any ideas would be gratefull. also need a new exhust and speedys have not got any in or martin does anyone know where i can get one from. many thanks amanda and brian

Not sure about your electrical fault Lola, but somebody will be along to help you soon i'm sure;-) I can however point you in this direction to help with your Kaputt exhaust;-)

One helluva coincidence, are you getting power to the coil? Try running a separate live wire from the battery to the + connection on the coil and see if it starts, there's a break in the ignition circuit if it does. Maybe just a displaced connection when you were sorting the other problems

The fuse and starting problems are unlikely to be connected, unless a ignition wire has shorted out.
pull a spark plug and check for spark when cranking over, also check fuel is getting to the carb :)

what happend was i lost fuel gauge and flashers but was running went out next day she started ok so changed fuse for flashers but still not working went out day after stared her up but did not notice she was in gear so she jumped and stalled turned key on and off and then had no power for ignition so not sure whats going on with her
 
Does the engine turn over at all and do you get the ignition light on when you turn the key?
It's starting to sound like a faulty ignition switch.

If you have ignition lights try taking the wires of the back of the button and touch then together, I had a button fail on me.

Hi Lola,welcome along. Sounds like the starter could be jammed if it was started in gear. Put it in 4th and push back and forwards a couple of meters. That should free it up. Is there any sign of life at the dash? A jammed starter will suck the battery down and dimm the ignition lights, especially if the battery is not the best. When you turn the key can you hear a click from the starter solinoid under the passanger seat in the engine bay?
The solinoid could also be suspect, i have had one fail. I resorted to shorting it out with a screwdriver to get home....
Indicator is most likley a short somewhere, i would guess behind the dash as the lucas wiring is cr&p at the best of times and prone to bad earths and broken wires etc.

Yes sounds like solenoid/starter.
You can bypass the soilenoid.
A sharp hammer tap to the back of the starter will be a temporary fix if its the starter
