Fitting a propane gas bottle

Hi, i am going away in my commer over the weekend and i just wanted to make sure how i do the gas. Do i leave it off when travelling and then back on when i want to use it? I have got some spanners to make sure its tight and washing up liquid to check for bubbles. Thanks
 
Hello Andrew It's a long time since I had my last Commer but you are right, the gas cylinder must be turned off when travelling,can you imagine what would happen if someone ran into the back of you, you or your passengers were trapped and a fire started. These cylinders are like a bomb when they go off. You will find that your fridge, if you have one will actually run on either gas or electricity,so you can switch it over.
If my memory is playing tricks then I am certain one of the other members will correct me. Not about turning the gas off because anyone who doesn't turn it off at the bottle is worse than a nutter and that is a retired fireman talking.Enjoy your trip away and be safe.
 
So do i take the regulator off when travelling and at night or do leave it on and just turn the cylinder off?
 
No you can leave the regulator connected to the bottle, just turn all gas off when travelling, There is no need to turn the gas off at night but it is advisable to buy yourself a detector, I don't think they cost a lot but someone on here will let you know how much and where to get one. Any decent caravan shop should sell them.

Hope you have a great and safe time. Just remember that gas bottles are safe as long as they are used correctly, but any problems just get as far away as possible. I had my last Commer for about 7 years and never had any problems at all.
