Fitting a middle seat

Hi everyone.

Now we are three, I need to fit a middle seat to Pootle (so that we can secure Jaspers baby seat as safely as possible). I have everything I need, but wanted to know if I should place a washer, between the engine lid and the bottom of the seat?

How I've done it so far, the bottom of the seat (the leather) sits directly onto the lid. Would a rubber washer help protect the leather, reduce vibrations or heat?

Not a particularly complicated question (like fitting a V8!!) but I'd be grateful to know your opinions.

The one in my pick up had a small spacer washer so id didnt touch like you say. Dont use rubber though and make sure the engine lid catches are in good condition as its the only thing stopping the seat tilting forward if you brake very hard;)
