First m o t.

I am taking my commer mjp1 for its first m o t next week. There is no reason why it should fail as i there were no advisories from the last m o t and i havn`t changed anything. Fingers crossed.

Make certain that you take it to an older vehicle testing station that doesn't expect it to be like a brand new vehicle. These ladies have to be handled with care and can take umbrage if they are insulted by some young kid in a MOT station.

dont forget - they now look for messy wiring on the mot apparantly. And if like mine your handbrake works on the front wheels - dont forget to tell the mot man!

lulu, i am taking my commer to worcester classic cars where my van was serviced. I want somebody to show pride when they touch my vehicle.

well done, that's what I call using a bit of commer sense. I don't remember a classic cars garage when I lived in Worcester in about 1964

alas mine failed the MOT this year on things that would not have been a fail last year since they tightened up the rules - my garage said it was a crying shame they had to fail it because otherwise its all good; quick call to Mr Maltas though and everything was done in time for the retest

Ah it's because of people like you John that I am having to go to the August meet in my car instead of in Lulu

Lulu the garage is in Spetchley, which is a little village just outside of Worcester What has been tightened up on the m o t?

Lots of stuff. Ball joint dust covers must not have nicks or cuts in them, loose wiring , old weld repairs that have been acceptable before may not be this time round, tow bar wiring must be up to modern standards - to mention a few:I

I checked my ball joint dust covers and found them to be OK, I got some replacements just in case. Put a couple of extra cable ties on the overdrive wiring and they were fine for the MOT - I did get a couple of advisories though including a drip of oil from the oil pressure switch:I

Took the playgirl mini interesting!
Basically if they find something dangerous you fix it
it seems it goes down as advisory!
I always thought an advisory was for us!
Is it actually for vosa?
Looks like the new rules are a good thing from a quick search of the
net so long as any mods are of a high standard!

A lot of things are down to the personal opinion of the tester. Therefore, if he advises it and Vosa pull you up and inspect it, he is covered, as he has advised it, even if they dissagree and say it should have failed, as long as it's not dangerous ;)
So, advisories are to inform you, but really to cover the testers back.
