faulty brake lights

Hey guys, I wondered if anyone could possibly help. My commer is booked in for its mot on friday and ive just been doing some last minute checks and the bloomin brake lights have stoped working!! after having my mate round with his foot on the pedal and myself looking at them they came on briefly but then not at all agin. Does this sound like a loose conection? or maybe should i check a relay of some sort? We checked the prssure switch under the engine lid and that seems to work fine, there was 12 volts and continuity between the contacts when the brake was pressed. Im at a loose end and wondered if there was maybe a classic point on the commer where a loose conection may occur. Any help would be gratefuly recieved, Cheers, Alex with the F.T!!

Loose conection could be the problem and it's the first thing to check around the light clusters. There isn't any relay to worry about so it's either a dodgy connection or the switch - is there any possibility of water inside the light cluster?

Hi Panky, cheers. No, i checked the rear clusters and no water what so ever. I jiggled all the grey crimp things also hoping that the lights would come on indicating that the problem was at that point but had no luck. My roof is completely off, and i can see the wiring loom all the way along the near side until it dissapears into the near side window pillar and then out under the dash. Do you think i should trace the cables back from the pressure switch, or from the rear light clussters. I have a continuity tester, but the wiring diagrams in the manual are to hard to understand.

If it's live from the switch then check it at the light cluster with your tester. Just a thought - do the lights come on with the hand brake they should. If not then its a common fault further back. If all else fails try running a temporary live to the brake light - if they work try connecting the temporary wire to the switch and see what happens.
