I used to work in Ghana where the roads were exactly like this. Approaching a similar junction in Accra or Kumasi was simply a matter of putting your foot down and crossing your fingers. Somehow there wasn't that many accidents though. One of my funniest memories were people building there own viscous speed bumps to try and slow traffic passing through their villages!
