Exhaust Sealing Ring

I’m in the midst of renewing my head gasket and refurbishing the cylinder head but I have a broken seal for the exhaust to manifold connector.

Can anyone advise where I can get a new one or does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks.

Did you ever chase the one in the link on here

An MGB V8 one looks promising but I can't find any dimensions.
edit: Just found it - 42mm internal we need 38mm

I was going to suggest you try www.forestcustom.co.uk but it looks like they have the same as you have looked at. The part number is 1215424 if that is any help. I did come across a Paul Marshall at Gaydon last year who rebuilds Rootes engines, might be worth a try. His number is 07947632976. I have also had parts from Rootes Spares in Holland, a bit pricey but I did get a lot of what I was looking for. Might be worth a try if all else fails. Good luck.

Hello Coomerers

I have a query. The head gasket I took out blocked the waterway to the rear of cylinder 4. I assume this is incorrect and the gasket should be inserted shiny side up as my photo with arrow.

This may help reduce temperature build up to the rear of the engine?

Lots of photos attached. Including my insulated manifold which i hope will reduce temperature build up in the engine bay which has led to fuel vaporisation issues on start up when engine is hot.

Let me know what the forum experience is.

Ps I have tried Forest Custom for the seal ring but one they sell is too large at 44mm. So Stuart is ordering in a 38mm ring which should match then one in mine. However it’s not in yet so I’m going ahead with a refit of the old one and some gun gum sealant.

That was definitely on the wrong way, lucky you found it. Maybe your fuel valorisation issues will ease now.

Hope so. I just measured up the exhaust ring and it is a fraction too small for the spigot on the end of the Martin Maltas supplied s.s exhaust which is why it split. The only one available is the 44mm Hillman Minx one from Forest Custom Classics. So I’m going to get one of those and give it a try.

The 44mm exhaust gasket looks like this from Forest CC. Stuart’s says they are all different depending on what comes in. I am hoping this one will work.

I siliconed it in place so it will be in the right place when I offer up the exhaust.

I use these graphite rings and work very well on my custom exhaust - tend to be for exhausts with a tube and lip on the pipe so it slots over the exhaust to the lip before offering it up
