Surfing through ebay tonight at wotk i noticed an ening for sale fitted with a aliminum head all ready to go .
Would this engine be any improvement over the one currentlt fitted to my van or is it just the holbay ones that improve performance ???
 
A very useful improvement as long as it's the 1725, but a few things to swap over and modify to make it fit. The twin Strombergs (if it has them) will go in but advisable to get a modified manifold to take a big single SU. Is it the blue one in Southampton:p

The one I have has an ally sump, are they all like that?

Not all, the one I fitted to Harvey had a steel one and so does my spare engine. But it needs to be swapped for the Commer one anyway to make it fit.

Yes it's the blue one and comes with ali head rocker cover and sump
It doesn't come with carbs will my big single su fit it and my other engine ancillaries ??
I'm very tempted
What will the difference be from my old engine

A BIG difference;)
You will need a specially modified manifold to fit the SU ( but we know a man who can do that:))is the an inlet manifold with it? The rest is swapping bits from your Commer engine onto the new one.
The list for swapping is:-
Front plate(for engine mounts)
Thermostat housing
Water pump
Sump pan
Alternator bracket
Fly wheel and clutch
Crankshaft pulley (I think)
Try and get both exhaust manifolds off him, the twin pipe one is best but will need a fair bit of chopping about. The other one does looks much easier to fit.
And your overdrive box will fit straight on:)

I think all the Arrow shape Vogues had the alloy sump and head Martin.

There was a four branch exhaust fitted to the Holbay engine. Twin Stromberg's were fitted to some versions.

Not sure about the Mini one but a couple of people have made one from scratch. There's a certain bloke in Yorkshire who has recently bought a mandrel tube bender that might be able to help;)

Hi ive just had a chat with the guy today hes sure its a good engine ???
Hes sold the sump but says i can have the bare engine inculding manifolds and ali rockercover for 300 delivered is this ok ???

You could get lucky and it will be a good one but for £300 I would want him to at least take a look at the crank and bearings to make sure they aren't shot (the hard bit is done if he's sold the sum pan) and to take the head off to look at the bores and send you pictures.

The Auto-Sleeperer the better.
 
Probably a Ford zetec or Vauxhall red top. They seem to be the most popular.

Well new engine is on its way I bought the engine n box out of the hunter ;)
So the over drive box will be for sale
What's the going rate for these ???
I think the guys putting a mx5 engine n box in his hunter .
He was a real nice guy gonna keep in touch
