Engine rebuild vs Ali Khamenei's new bottom - eBay

You cant upload video files directly from your PC, I think they would be too big, but you can copy the link after uploading onto Photobucket and past it into a post.
I know you're convinced the bottom end has gone, and you may well be correct, but there's no harm in checking the timing gear, crankshaft pulley and all the other things that have been suggested just in case. You'll have to take them off anyway if you strip the engine:)

Yeah I will check those bits prior to buying a new bottom end. But I'm not going to lie.... dropping a new more powerful engine into my van does excite me somewhat!

Kaaaaaaaarm down kaaaaaaaaaaarm down;)
Don't blame you[8D]

Take the rocker cover off and have a look, just in case.

The iron head engines go well with the 6 speed box mate. Really wanting your knocking to be the tappets so you can get it sorted cheaply and get the van used....summer is here dude.

It sounds like it's fooked [xx(] but you may be lucky and have just had a tappet adjuster fall out, so go with Panky's suggestion and pull the rocker cover ;)

Hubbell - what have you decided?I think I'm getting a new bottom end after all, as the price comparison with a rebuild seems pretty equal. Mechanic is trying to figure out which compression Lola needs.

La-La La-La Lola . . .
;)

More likely the low compression if it's an iron head engine in Lola.

Hi

I'm going to take the rocker cover off tomorrow and see if one of the tappet adjusters has worked loose. If it has I'm going to hopefully fix it and then get it back on the road or if it's definitely the bottom end then I'm going to purchase a high compression bottom end which I will use in conjunction with my alloy head from my other broken engine then also carry out the SU conversion. Whatever happens my Mrs has given me to the end of July to fix it otherwise she said she'll list it on ebay!

I checked the tappet adjusters yesterday morning and all was good nothing was loose. I then started it and it was knocking worse than ever it's literally knocking on deaths door, it crawled off the drive.
Time for a new engine with more power me thinks....

just wanted you to know you are not alone
