the spare engine and gearbox i got with my van is out of a highwayman, iwas told it had been re-furbished . the guy told me that this is often a sign it has been re-conditioned-does this sound about right?
Maybe not, see if you can see down one of the spark plug holes at the top of a piston to see if it's nice and shiny. You may be onto a good thing but hopefully you wont need it for a while
i was thinking of just taking the head off to have a proper look(it has been sat for 5 years). imay even sell it as i have a good engine in her at mo. my plan was to pimp it up because its nice and easy to work on as its out already with gearbox attached(need to check clutch)and then in a decade or so when im ready i'll drop existing eng & g-box & fit pimped one-hey presto

Some reconditioned engine were repainted Blue. I believe they were call Blue seal engines!
i can remember the recon gold seal engines but not the blue
I had one in a Capri once Mark. It painted was Blue but I guess the company could have been called Gold Seal. I think a Blue seal engine only had the parts replaced that were worn out not fully rebuilt!
Not sure about painting the engines blue as a marker but i can defo confirm that Lyndale engines were a very good company, not sure if they are still going mind you?
