Hello guys, the Rootes engine with number 6L1229240 should be 1500 cc. I’m not sure about this, how can I check it? Thanks!
This engine was installed in my car, but this engine number doesn’t correspond with the VIN (chassis number) …..

Hi all, I'll start off with honesty :) I have a series 3 Hillman Minx and i bought a 1725 Commer van engine for it. I was wondering if anyone had info on Commer engine numbers and what they mean? I have attached pictures of the numbers i can see. TIA, Justin

There are other ways to identify a later 1725 engine, easiest is the fact that the smaller engine has a three main bearing crank but the 1725 has a five bearing crank. This can be identified by the number of oilway drilling plugs on the right hand side of the engine, the first is easy to spot as it has the oil pressure switch screwed into it. Look/feel along the bottom of the block to see how many plugs there are.
