Hi Rupert, I am in sunny befordshire these days, so a bit of a treck to come and collect. Crossplies?? It passes its mot year after year with them on. Still maybe time to renew??
If In get really stuck I will collect it?? I do have a spare in bits than I ncould probably get it rebuilt from??

Super Super Cool

I have an engine, not a Holbay though :(
Its a 1725 and still in the camper although the gearbox is out so will be an easy remove. Best of all im in Bedfordshire to, so not much of a trek! If your interested send me an email. Cheers.

Hi Beachboy (and other potential donors!),

My beloved Winston has died also - I'm on the look out for a new heart for him and would probably be willing to go pretty much anywhere to pick one up! the big end went and blew the the engine to shreds, what a way to go!

Any suggestions of a good Commer mechanic in the home counties/London area gratefully received as I am woefully lacking in skills in the engine tinkering department!

Juicy Lucy

Call me mad, but I've been pondering on reverting to crossplies.. :I

Where did you get hold of yours, Gav, and how much were they? (if you bought them new, that is)

Might go and see these guys soon Jos (80s haters playing on my mind!) do they have what you need?

Brilliant, Admin!
But when I saw the prices of the things, I think it will have to be put on the 2011 budget.. [V]
But thanks anyway :)

Jules, that is a very kind offer.
Whereabouts are you? Will probably touch the outskirts of London (east) on Thursday/Friday next week.. :p

Hi SuperCool & JuicyLucy,

I've got a non-Holbay alloy headed 1725 with all ancillaries available for £67 as per http://66.129.69.181/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4733.

As standard these lumps put out approx 17bhp fewer horses (88bhp) than the Holbay (105bhp). However without the twin 40s setup on a Holbay (which don't as fit the Commer without bodywork mods) I suspect the difference would be even closer. With some head work could provide a useful gain on the standard lump

BTW : I've also got a gearbox with overdrive for £110, should you want to tame those extra horses [8D] As this comes from a Rootes car with the slant mounted engine it will need the Commer bellhousing & input shaft swapped to retain the vertical mounting. Plus a shortened propshaft, as all overdrive conversions do due their extra length.
