Apart from being 'kin heavy, when I collect our Rapier engine will I need to hire a hoist to load/unload from a van or would it be just possible for 2 blokes to man handle it on/off ?

Sorry if these seems a naive question but I've never touched an engine that's not in situ.

It's a big heavy lump and the safety manager in me says get a hoist -but I managed to lift mine into a small van with the aid of another burly chap. Trouble was I was by myself when I got it home:I, I slid it down a scaffolding plank to get out of the van but was faced with getting it up the drive to the garage - I had a cheap two wheeled trolley that just manage to last long enough before the wheels collapsed[xx(] Yes it can be done but be careful - heavy gloves are a must.

I lifted a short engine into my van, a couple of weeks ago, still feel it now [B)]

I once tried to lift a engine out of a mk 2 cortina by tying a rope around it and standing on the suspension tops, I slipped and fell through the windscreen, ended up bent double on the centre console ,nearly took my head off! doh![B)]:I
