electronic ignition

hi there.
my electerical problems are ongoing.....
I had the points cleaned and readjusted, and tramps was running fine again, till a long hill arrived, and just as we were reaching the top she started chugging.... but we made it over and she was fine down the other side.....
my mechanic has suggested doing away with the points and condenser and replacing it with an electronic ignition...
has anyone done this[?]
if so, where'd you get the part from[?]
any advice or comments about electronic ignitions kindly received:)

on ebay simonbbc 17.99,but use a standard coil with them Sybhils got one done trip to devon & back probably well over a 1000 miles now,have a look under chris's new ride in readers rides,not sure if the ebay listing is still active.

I've got the simonbbc points - make sure you get the right ones for your dizzy as there are a few different types.
Another rout is the electronic dizzy off a late model Rover Mini - goes straight on I believe:)

We fitted the SimonBBC replacement electronic dizzy and coil this summer and have completed over 1,800 trouble free miles since.

It was a lot cheaper than other setups available, so they must be cutting some quality corners somewhere but very pleased with it so far.

I have a "cheapo" ebay dizzy and it works really well! before that I had the expensive eletronic points in the old distributor, but the distributor itself dies so swaped the lot out.

definetly a very good modification.

there were three types of distributor fitted to Commers, Lucas 25D, lucas 45D and Duceller. I've never seen a duceller one, but the lucas ones can be easily differenciated. The 25D has longer clips holding on the distributor cap(about 8cm) the 45d has much shorter ones (about 2.5cm). There is a piccie of my old and new 45D distributors here...

try to get the electronic points (or distrubutor) which matches the current one (I'm not sure if you can swap them)

I have the c1 condenser and cs1 points.
any idea which distributer it is.[?]
 
I checked the old points out of mt 25D but there are no numbers stamped on them but that could just mean a different manufacturer. A 25D is marked as such on the top surface where the dizzy cap sits. Here's a pic of mine with the lekky points fitted

You can just see the 25D embossed on the casting near the vacuum advance. Hope this helps narrow things down a bit:I

Any problems/snags with that set up yet Panky? I'm on the verge of ordering the full kit, coil etc, looks a fairly easy job to do,(I think!)
