Electrical 'thingy'

I've been through the electrical section in the workshop manual twice now and still can't identify the 'coil like' thingy right by the air filter housing.

Silly question time, what is it please ?

That must be what it is, as there's a couple of big meaty wires and one goes to the starter [8D] I always thought these were attached or part of the starter though but guess Commers like to do things differently !
 
its only more modern stuff that has a pre-engaged starter with the solenoid on top, anything oldish has a seperate solenoid :)

I see - a bit like the fuel pump on our Stag ...

Maybe that's why our spade terminal has fractured off, my weedy little soldering iron didn't make a decent job of fixing a new one

Having identified the part/role I spoke to Speedy's and they've got some in their attic !
