Early Commer PA details

As everyone may remember I bought the Commer PA camper in cream and brown a couple of months ago. It was bought via Ebay from 'Beachboy' and has been very useful in my house move.
I make my living building model cars and I'm also involved with a company called Brooklin Models, based in Bath. Brooklin makes handbuilt model cars in white metal. The range of classic American cars are The Brooklin Collection and the range of classic British vehicles are under the name of Lansdowne Models.
When Nigel Parker, MD of Brooklin Models, saw the Commer a couple of weeks ago he agreed with me that it would make a great addition to the range. The thinking is that a 1:43 Commer PA Camper would be part of the 2011 line-up...the first ever 1:43 model of our beloved mode of transport...the Corgi was a smaller scale.
My PA has a non-standard interior and so we need information on the original layout. Can anyone help? My email address is [email protected], tel: 01373 823683.

Hi John, fist off try Studiocommer's image archive - page 16 has some nice shots of an Autosleeper interior, a bit later than yours but the design didn't change much. What conversion is yours? Have a trawl through and you might find something else more suitable. I've got some interior pics of a Commer Maidstone about the same vintage as yours - I'll dig them out and send them to you.

Many thanks! I believe mine is a Maidstone although the interior was completely rebuilt by a previous owner. Mine will be used by the pattern maker so we need to get the details right. Any help gratefully appreciated.
 
John,

Any chance you can convince him to make it in 1/32 scale? Enables more detail, doesn't take up much more room than 1/43 on display and can be converted into a slot car! :) :)

I've also got some photos saved of Maidstone interior. Am happy to send over if you want them, John. Probably not the best resolution in the universe, but may be of help still. :)
 
Thanks for all the help so far! I know it will make a very pretty model...in 1:43 scale though! Brooklin don't do 1:32 unfortunately. I suspect the stock version will be in April Yellow although I will be making one-off colours to order.

Hope you find some help in the archive, there were many different commer converters through the ages so a few variants to choose from and still get it right. Martin Watts a very useful fella to talk to - published this book which would seem to be exactly what you're looking for...

Hi John, I have scanned and emailed you a copy of the origonal sales brochure, which shows the layout. I also have a Maidstone in my collection, unfortunately the interior is missing, apart from the seats/beds for the rear.

Again many thanks everyone! The response has been great and I'm looking forward to seeing the model. I suspect it will be measured sometime in the Spring. For those interested, Brooklin Models have a website which you can find on Google and my website is www.jrcustombuilt.com provided I've paid the subs...can't remember! I can arrange visits to Brooklin Models if anyone is interested as I suspect there are model collectors out there. The book mentioned is part of my library and a very useful publication.
 
If you can't wait for the Brooklin model, you could try one of these!
