dynamator To alternator

Finally got back into the van this afternoon, quick little project to remove the dynamator and mount a alternator. All mocked up, will make sure I can get the right belt, if not will make a new adjustment bar, but hoping to keep it simple and use the original.
Bottom mount is simple mount I made using original mounting holes.

Hi,

I looking to do an alternator conversion on my 1962, any advise on what alternator to fit and anything I should be aware of before hand. I have a later 1725 hillman hunter engine fitted.

Many thanks
Phil

The original was a Lucas 10AC 33amp. Try a search for that and check out the alternatives, it won't do any harm to fit a higher output one. There were loads of cars fitted with the same one so it won't be difficult to find one, I know for a fact that a Mini one will fit but you will need to sort out the wiring and a bracket, which will be different from a dynamo. See if Martin Maltas can help with a bracket.

Many dynamo to alternator swaps can be done with a length of threaded rod with nuts/spacers/washers using the original bracket. I've done several like that myself. Best alternator to use is usually a 17ACR Lucas type still freely available. Make sure you buy left or right handed to suit your setup. I don't know which is which :) The original 10AC alternators use external voltage regulators, so are much more difficult to wire up. (and they're not nearly as good as the ACR)
I'll post the installation instructions soon............
