I'm sure some of you already know,but for those who don't, it's national drive it day on Sunday when classic and vintage owners get their vehicles out and drive them to show that there is a large following and this following contributes to the economy in quite a substantial way.:D.
A lot of runs are organized by classic car clubs but there's nothing to stop you just going where ever just for the fun of it[}:)]:D
I'm taking the "Rockit" on a charity run to Melford hall in Long Melford, Suffolk even though half the interior is missing as i'm trying to get it restored before the welsh w/end.
So it would be good to get as many Commers on the road at some point as possible to let people know they are still around ;);)

Not long back from our Drive it Day outing[8D]
We met up in the Ferry Inn car park at 9 this morning and a total of 9 cars turned up, an eclectic mix ranging from a Humber Super Snipe to a Marlin kit car, Commers were well represented by Gladys and Harvey. We set of through Warrington and meandered through the Chesire lanes and by-roads to Lady Hayes antiques centre where we stopped of for a coffe and a scone. About half way there we found ourselves in the middle of a cycle roadrace and had to pull over a couple of times, on one occasion the road completely disapeared in a cloud of smoke from somewhere near the front of the convoy, I suspected the NSU R180 belonging to the club treasurer (the funds are just resting in my account) was having trouble with it's Vankel (I know that's the wrong spelling but I was auto-edited with the correct one:I) but it turned out to be the big Humber. We feared the worst but the smoke cleared and we continued until next time he had to brake sharply to avoid the cylists - again the road disapeared in a blanket of dense white smoke[xx(] We were very popular with the racers:I The probem was diagnosed when Steve, the owner of the car, checked his brake fluid - it had dropped a lot, it looked like the diapragm in the servo had gone and brake fuid was being squirted into the manifold under heavy braking. He left he car at our coffee stop and hitched a ride in the NSU. We set off again and hit the back roads to a pub at Eastham Ferry and piled in for a rather tasty meal:p
It was Harvey's first run out since the engine re-build and he did us proud, the engine felt stronger as the day progressed, probably me being less gentle on the loud pedal[8)] and he pulled effortlessly. Only two annoying problems - the speedo wasn't working (fixed it when we got home) and the gearbox - it doesn't like going into 3rd and occassionally jumps out of 4th[V] We all made our own way back from the pub so we opted for the quick rout along the motorway, blimey what an improvement:p I couldn't tell how fast we were going but he kept up with the traffic easily on light throttle and surprised an orange and white bay window darksider when we flew past him like he was standing still:D
My favourite part of the day was when we were having coffee - a couple were following us in a Spitfire and they commented on how nice Harvey sounded as we drove along the lanes, 'Got a nice deep rumble to it' they said, just what I was looking for[8D]

We had a great run despite the weather although Gladys was not performing as well as she should.
I fitted a modified exhaust on her last weekend, she was a pinking a little and did not like going up the hills.
I will have to fiddle around with her next week as there are steeper & longer hills in Pandy. [:0]

Good to see other 'Drive it day experiences' ! Commers looked good! Clarabel had a good Drive it Day back from the National Memorial Arboretum today -It was a bit damp but about 200 classics had turned out to support the British Legion poppy Appeal and the Arboretum funds. Hazel Matt Thomas and Evie May all enjoyed sitting in Clarabel in the rain and dashing out when it stopped. Some very interested spectators -some with Commer stories to tell. The journey down was a nightmare-won't bore you here but if you want the true horror- look at My Ride Needs a Makeover in Readers Rides!

Here's few pic's of my drive it day to suffolk. A trouble free run of around 140 miles in total was a good post winter shakedown before the welsh w/end. The route took us through the picturesk back lanes of essex to Long Melford,Suffolk where we stopped at the family home of Beatrix Potters uncle,she apparently spent a lot of time there and wrote some of the peter rabbit books.
I was amazed to win an award for the Photographers choice vehicle as the Classic car weekly photographer was there and chose the "lovely cream and blue campervan":I:I even though half the interia is missing. He evidently likes to see vehicle that are mid restoration.[:0]
