Doors and lack of bottom!

So here is one of Frodos doors:

As you can see, the bottom is lacking from it, and the same on the other one.

As I started to plan the fix, I suddenly realised that I couldn't work out how far down the door goes! So unless I am lucky, I will make it too short, or too long! Can anyone tell me the length of the door from a suitable reference point, so I can make skins that are the right length?

Hi Charlie - from the waist edge below the door handle - to the door bottom 1 foot 8 1/4 inches

Sweet! Thank you very much. I will get guilotining this week! I've managed to get the window and 1/4light out, which was a bugger due to the fact that everything had rusted together (or apart - depending on which would inconvenience me most!) I don't know how much I will be able to salvage - is it an MOT requirement to have wind down windows?

should be ok with the windows as most testers don,t check them :)

"you were only supposed to blow the bloody SLIDING doors off"

Yeah, he does, but as there is very little of the original fluting left on the entire van, I am going for smooth lines all round, so I just need a piece of metal.

I did my door bottoms myself. The key (for mine at least) was to sort the inner skin first (using the check strap mount as a lower datum point)

Another thing (which I got wrong) was the width of the lip at the bottom. mine is about an inch wide, which catches on the door frame. I'm not sure how wide it should be, but 1 inch is too much!

The last thing is that there may need to be a slight curve inwards (I can't really tell on mine as its a pretty shonky repair..)

good luck and show us the progress!

Rupert
