In a bid to make some money from restoring rust buckets I just went and bought this.

Hopefully with much more optimistic margins than many old vans the 12 months graft will actually bear fruit.... lets see!

Excellent, love these:cool: All you need is some corrugated tin to make a new body:)

love em..my auntie has 2 here in Sheffield. One a good one doing woodfired pizza and another is immaculate doing pulled pork...make a decent living

Looks great. Would love to see some pics once completed.

So you are sticking with the original petrol and 3 speed?

Mines got a 'new' diesel engine and box coming with it. But i'm thinking of dropping an Audi lump and box in. As it's a project all based on final retail price i'll have to think more about this and weigh it all up.

Interesting what you said about the floor. It's been replaced and the chassis is in a mess. The rest of the van seems good so this follows your thinking. Luckily, as a wise man once said - I have a cunning plan...

With the LWB fetching so much more the the SWB it follows an XLWB will see me into retirement

Yes saw that. I have tried reading the page but it's so convoluted I never get to the bottom of it!

I'm very familiar with audi/vw stuff so feel a bit more confident going that route, I recon I can do the engine/box conversion for under £500 myself.

'Cost of the Ford engine is £2,990, Gearbox at £1,990 + fitting'

Yes I'm sticking with original engine and box it's runs really well, and gearbox is good now..

An Audi lump fits nice with a few alterations, I think the one to go for is a late A4/Passat one.
I've made some good connections in the Hy world so if you needs any advice or struggling with parts let me know and I will try and help;)

Look through this link it's a start to finish resto of one which has an engine and gear box swap.. It's a great read with some good tips..

I'm glad there not getting left to rust away and there getting used and admired again..
They all left the factory as empty vans and
alot of them where originally for food and groceries like mobile butchers shop and fruit n veg..
As long as they drive, I'm also against the ones people strip bare and just trailer them about to weddings and so on..

Jagger thats the thing : because of the EU rules classic Cars between new and 40 yrs OLD have to pay Road taxes in the netherlands again and the HY s are being butchered , engines and gearbox out , axles removed and converted into trailers : so that they don't have a registration As a car anymore : and are turned into trailers

That's not even nice to look at it just looks awful:(
at least when there done properly they stand out in a crowd and are good talking points and great advertisement..
