Thought I'd start a "readers rides" post for "Donny" the camper (HYK988N).We named him Donny after we had all the family round for Sunday lunch and put names in a hat,my sister in law won(she loves Donny Osmond:))
After a shaky start driving him home from Martins,I'm now getting used to him,and after a bit of fettling inside and out (new carpets/curtains etc),have now been on a couple of weekends away,the latest being this weekend just gone,when I got him over the mountain route to Bala.
He ran really well(started using Millers fuel additive),although to slow for some people,having fists waved at me at one point,even though I always pull over when a line of cars develops.
I have added a towbar and tow a camping trailer with a sailing dingy and canoe on top.This probably sounds heavy,but the boat only weighs 40kg and it doesn't seem to affect the performance.I couldn't believe the vile weather,horizontal rain and high winds,but luckily no leaks or problems.
Next trip planned is the Derbyshire Dales in July.
Not many jobs I want to do,as I'd like to keep him as standard as possible with such low mileage.He's going to get painted underneath when I can find time,as its never been done.
That's all for now and will try to upload some photos next time.

Hi Andy,Welcome aboard,
We are currently touring Tasmania in our old Commer and towing a trailer with a boat on top also. so we know all about the lines of impatient cars caught behind us.
For every fist waver there are usually at least 100 admirers though and being courteous and pulling left when possible is always gets us more waves than fists.
Slowly slowly is all part of Commer ownership, 'unless your driving Kermit of course' I had a chap at a camp ground ask me what my cruise speed was and after i told him and expected the usual laughter he casually replied, "Whats the rush when your cruzin in style". I like that,,[8D]

Summer's Coming
 
We did the bluestone run two weekends ago which is across the peselli hills in pembrokeshire. At the head of the procession of about a 100 classics and at one point doing 12 miles an hour going up some of the hills we were convinced we were going to get lynched at the lunchtime stop!!

Everyone was very understanding but when we started the engine for the second part of the run it was quite impressive how some people can quickly pack away their picnics and shoot through the gate before you. Still managed to lead a healthy set of followers to the end point!!:D

Ireland here we come.

Hi all,
I've not been on the site for a week or two.I don't think I can make Martins in September due to work commitments and not had much time for Donny either,but just squeezed "this" weekend in the Forest of Dean on a lovely little site called Hawthorn cottage.
Donny went well,but Elaine,my other half,didn't like the petrol fumes when the windows were down while travelling.I have no obvious leaks and guess its exhaust fumes as its more noticeable on overrun and the exhaust doesn't exit at the back.Has anyone got any tips?
I wondered about reworking the exhaust,so it does exit at the rear and would be interested if anyone has done this.
I still haven't sorted my pics out but have opened a "dropbox" account and guess I can use that to upload them.
Any tips gratefully received,Andy
 
It could be that the exhaust tail pipe is too short, it needs to just poke out from under the van. Also check the seal on the engine cover.
