Tow start the f****r!
You may have so much fuel in the cylinders and ports now it may only go with a good long tow.
I will come round in my truck and drag it down the road with you if you need a hand.
I know you have probably done this Tim but its worth changing the spark plugs, I recently had a Talbot Express that was a pig to start and a new set of plugs had it starting first time every time.

Colin, it does have an "imitation" imobiliser fitted, i did suspect it, but i,m certain it,s a dummy.
I put new plugs in Alan, and it,s had plenty of hours of breathing space for excess fuel to evaporate. But i know what you mean about towing.

I've had a very similar problem with Jessica. In the end I completely stripped and cleaned the fuel system. I know you know all this stuff already!
I spent a few weeks trying to start Jessica before I realized it was water coming out of the fuel line not fuel!
I really want to know what the answer is now!

Are the plugs actually getting wet? Been thru these problems more times than i care to remember and its always something stupid and small and been double and tripple checked. Commer engine is quite easy to start even with a 'lazy' starter, Will it even attempt to fire? Any little puffs out the exhaust? If not my guess would be an issue with the timing. Perhaps the timing chain sprocket has come loose and is slipping on its shaft? might have enough grip to turn over slowley but under a bit more load it may be just spinning and sending the valve timing out of wack? I know its a long shot but i did have exactly that happen on an old car i had way back when.
Good spark and good fuel only really leaves timing issue of some sort.

Glad you are ok. Battery explosions are nasty. Had a 24volt setup on a 4x4 short out to the bonnet stay. Battery went off like a bomb and set fire the the bonnet lining. Not nice and a big mess. It actually welded the bonnet closed! I can imagine a battery going bang in a enclosed cab would be very unplesent indeed. I guess H&S regs would never allow a battery in an exposed location these days.
