Dolly The Autosleeper

lol thanks m8. long way to go yet ;) nearly mot worthy but i will still need to change the peak, guttering down both sides and bottom panels all round (and i cant make them myself lol) on a lighter note. the peanut butter trick works well (my dash is still shiney lol) and that 2.00 drill goes well with my 3.00 angle grinder ;) been a bit ill the last couple of days so had to give it a rest on saturday but i felt guilty today so i did a little bit of T-Cutting to try and clean her up a bit (not been washed since i got her :( ) im going out welding tomorrow :D

didnt take any of the whole side polished up as it got to cold but i did take a couple as i was going :D it still amazes me what a bit of warm water and a drop of T-Cut can do [^]

Why i was hard at work welding and fabbing mel was T cutting like a mad woman and so far i am shocked how much nicer it looks now. once we had both finished we even found time to bolt her grill and number plate back on :D[^]

You're one determined chap, now you've infected Mel with the Commer bug and she seems very feverish;)

I take my hat off to you,,Thats one gutsy effort and it must be very satisfying to see the rust being replaced with steel.
With that determination i am sure we will see her return to the road soon.
All the best of luck with your MOT. Although i dont think you need it, because it looks like that Commers getting through OK no matter what!!!.:p

Well done...:D:D

Your welding with no gas using standard gas wire, scares the s#*@ out of me[V] Lets hope your never in a crash as some of the areas your doing are very structural.Im just glad im not the mot tester[:0]

A commer with even bigger boost will be appering on a screen near you soon!

Hi Paul
I agree with Jon I was just saying to Heidi last night that someone should mention to you that the welding and other repairs has to be stronger then the original. Its not just a case of getting through the MOT its about making it safe for you and your family to enjoy, God forbid if you are involved in an accident you want to know that the welding will not just disintegrate and the van crumple. It’s all about Structural Strength for Safety.

do appreciate the concern though :);) got away with changing the actual trigger in the lance. god knows where my dad found 1. i couldnt :D but fitted that and got the bottle refilled by a friendly guy i met last week and so far i have heard no hissing ect apart from when i pull the trigger :)[8D] i managed to do a fairly good job on the inner wheel arch repair this morning with it. the drivers side isnt half as major as this 1 so i will be cracking on with that next. i have had a bit of a re-think and after i have got the mot on her i am redesigning the front of the inner sills. im planning on boxing them in for extra strengh and to stop mud ect gathering in the recess.

well, at 1:15pm the 48 hr countdown til MOT time begins. i have a holw the size of a 2p to weld up today then all welding is done [8D] the polishing is pretty much finished :) (just the roof and pop top left)
all the electrics are in and working but i still need to screw the rear light in place. windows cleaned and passenger seat fitted :) wiper blades checked. all lights checked, fuel tank repaired and re-fitted. no leaks yet but its got to come back out for painting in the summer. 2 mirror heads borrowed and fitted. interior light was broken so replaced that. got a few more checks to do but dolly is looking good :p really nervous now lol. after a year of blood sweat and almost tears im about to find out if i have pulled it off [8)] got some black paint to go round the inner sills to make it look a bit nicer for the mot man lol (guess who will be painting :D)

Brakes will be the one - make sure you check all your couplings/pipes and slam them on on your trip to the test station (choose some quiet roads!)

yh i have pretty much checked everything, brake lines ect look good and when i ran it up the road and back it braked true but i have booked it in about 10 miles away so she gets a little run to re settle them. and yup john the pressure is on big time lol. brown trousers just dont do it justice lol. my only real worry is king pins. i have looked at them and they seem fine but as i have never had to worry about them i aint got a clue lol dad is coming down to take her for the mot as he has trade insurance ;) i just hope she goes through ok as if not i will only have 2 days to get it sorted (not even enough time to order parts :( )

Give everything a good greasing the day before - and give the kingpins and extra shot. The first time I took Harvey for the MOT I got an unofficial advisory on slight wear in one of the kingpins, I've made sure they've had their shot of grease ever since and no more mention:)
