Dolly The Autosleeper

Nice 1 Paul , your progress is great considering you're learning as you go, well done and keep up the momentum, you'll defo be on the road this summer!!
:D

cheers guys. in truth im just getting it all solid for mot. this summer i have my dad coming down to go over the whole lot with i fine tooth comb and sort out any bits that arent quite right. but so far im pleased as i now have a rear floor and 2 new wheel arches haha. unfortunately yesterday i kept getting caught out by the flash because the trigger kept sticking. so i have decided today to have a day off the welding and take a look at the trigger. but as soon as i get the last piece of rear floor in i can spin her round and attack the front inner sills ect then its just tidying up the peak for mot. gonna buy a shiny new one ready for summer :)

Oh what a bummer :( all that gas wasted [V]
Make sure you sort that trigger out. And don,t weld anything structural without gas ;)

hoping to get the gas refilled if i can. but not sure how to sort the trigger out. will i need to buy a new cord and gun? and i know its a dumb question but i gotta ask to learn lol why not weld structural stuff without gas? does it not take as well or something? :)

Strip the gun down to see if it is the trigger, as it may be the shut off valve in the set.
The gas is used for a reason, without it welds are porous and brittle and very poor [xx(]
I will try and find the number for the bloke in Yarmouth ;)

ah k. i didnt realize that :) i have been told there is a place down the road that may re fill my bottle for 15.00 so im gonna pop along there tomorrow :) but if you could find the number it would help m8 :) so i take the trigger out and strip it down then clean everything up and re assemble yh?

Good to see you are cracking on with it Paul. Have you sorted your leaky gas? Don't forget that you need to weld to clean metal, which means removing all traces of paint, rust or protective covering.

yh cracking on fast m8. i did clean it all up at the back. the spots just held it all on why i was under there lol. will be grinding them off to clean and seam weld :) as for the gas. i didnt sort it exactly lol. when doing spots i dont use it. but due to the move ect i just cant afford to pay for a new cord and trigger. on closer inspection i noticed the trigger wasnt seeping :) the plastic co2 pipe just keeps popping out so for now i have had to put up with it. put a bit of sealant round it and i got the bottle refilled but it still leaks a little so it may not last long :( as long as it lasts to get this last bit of welding done before mot time i will be happy lol

cheers tim [^] yh steaming along nicely now. i have altered my plan of action slightly and im pleased to say its working nicely. im now spotting everything into place, then going around the whole lot with gas in 1 go. i cant stop my co2 leak but i have slowed it so hopefully 1 refill will allow me to get all the way round the front :) going to get a new cord and trigger next month and problem solved ;)

got a bit more done today :I all the bolts for the passenger seat sheared [:(!] i was going to drill and tap them all but since the bottom was rotten anyway i decided to cheat. yet another white bit :)
100_6719_zps7f2d7180.jpg

i also tackled the nasty rotten corner at the top. managed to get it close to the right shape. at some point i will cut it back out and replace it with a nice smooth bit but for now im happy :D

all i have to do now is sort out the corner by the front engine cowling and fit the floor in;) then i can move on to the other side. and once all is tacked in spend a day with gas and PRESTO :D solid enough for mot. few bits need fitting before that though. mot is now BOOKED :I so im on a real deadline [xx(] :( :D

yh, strange but i seem to be pretty good at it, i think its because of the fact im a carpet fitter lol. once you master cutting round toilets, pipes bull noses ect metal seems pretty simple lol. little snip here and there, few welds and presto chango lol

Oh my, I havent been on here for a while, scan read your whole 66 pages. Hats of to you, what a mammoth task you have undertaken but looking at what you have achieved with peanut butter, a concrete block and a £2 drill. Im amazed. well done. Just shows what inginutity and perseverance can achieve.
