Into The Light

Well im now the prous owner of a 130 turbo mig. came with mask, 15-20 spare tips and a huge roll of welding wire so all i need now is a bottle of co2 and im away:D i have had a bit of a nightmare the last few days, i found 3 rot holes in my zx's inner wings and sill so i will be practicing on that ;) and my lovely landlord decided to sell the properties and give us our notice [:(!] we lose our place, and dolly's end of feb [V] so now i have got to hope that the council will house us otherwise i have got to find a shed load of cash when im not working :( on the other hand if they do re house us i will lose 2 of my dogs as only allowed 1 [:(!] and no guarentee of a drive [V][V] i will therefore be frantic the next couple of months getting dolly solid enough for an mot as there is no way in hell im losing her ;)[^]

i will be in need of a couple of bits for mot soon. all my electrics work and are fine. think i have tires sorted but i will need a 15 inch wheel, drivers mirror head and complete passenger mirror including the body clamp. and that should be all i will need. does anyone know if a cherrybomb back box would be ok for mot on a 73? as i have a blowing exhaust and when i put that on it sounded lovely so if so i will make up a new system why im practising :D

Oh bugger [V] that,s a bit of a big hassle :(

If you get stuck, i have a bottle of CO2 spare, and masses of wire. And i think we have a mirror arm. Cherrybomb will be fine as long as it,s not TOO loud, just one probably would be :I I do have an RC40 going spare if that helps.

Don,t forget to wish the landlord a happy new year ;)

yh i was thinking of coming up to see you and get some bits soon mate, got sat nav this time though lol. is the rc40 just the back box mate or system and how much, will have the mirror arm if you got 1 mate, does it have the clamp for the door? i have a place down here that do the disposable bottles for 13.00 but im thinking its probably a good idea to get hold of a pub bottle soon as. as for landlord i gotta figure out his new years present, i would love to give him a slap but its not my way :( and the houses are getting torn down. the swine delibrately put off giving us a new tenancy till the properties sold so he didnt have to give as much notice and we didnt have to pay a deposit so wont evan get that lol

The RC40 is a full twin box system, 2nd hand but v good, yours for 25 notes. Mirror arm is complete, bolts to the door.
The disposable bottles are a rip off. I have an empty pub bottle you can have if it helps, but be warned the pub gas is not strictly a welding gas (it has nitrogen in it) although it will do for what you want it for, it,s no good for high quality/strength welds :)

You don't need a spare for the MOT I believe? They only check the tread if it's there?

If your car doesn't have a spare at the time of test then they can't test it, so it's not a failure. I had to do that when i had my old BMW MOT'd

cool, well if tim can hook me up with 1 i will still grab it as need 1 eventually but its good to know i dont need 1 for the test :)

well its now time to start getting dolly ready. still unable to weld as i not been to tim's for my co2 :D but i decided today to do a bit of prep work on the back. trimmed up the rear wheel arch ready to go in and its sat nicely in place :)

then i got stuck in and removed the top part of the rear panel and got cleaning ;) pics show it covered in jenolite as it was drying lol

i have also made the repair section for the rotten patch you see in the pics. after the 2nd coat of jenolite had dried i used a bit of red oxide to protect my work til the welding is done. not massive amounts of progress but once i start welding it shou7ld all come together nicely JUST in time for MOT end of feb :) i also made up a few sections ready to replace various little rotten bits. hopefully in the next week i will get the cab floor sections made up and the front inner sills. i have decided to midify the front drivers floor slightly. i have to cut out most of it to get to a silly little hole i found above the chassis rail. so when i put it back im going to lose the 2 round covers that let you get to the reservoir's and replace it with 1 larger rectangular plate that will be held by 6 bolts. hopefully this will allow for access from above if ever i need it :D we have now packed up half the house ready to move and tomorrow we are looking at a huge flat that apparently has off road parking "allocated" and will be happy to let us keep the dogs so fingers crossed our worries may be almost over haha

Any progress is good progress[^] Makes life just that little bit easier when it comes to the next stage.
Good luck with the house move - if I happen to be in the area I'll come and give you a hand;)
