Dolly The Autosleeper

yh sucks dont it haha. i am now a bit stuffed lol. i need to cut the old jacking point out and get the new section in position but before i do that i need to secure the rear corner :( but at least i made some progress. i think i can get away with just getting the bits ready and chopping the last of the crud out on the day (which should be any time now) till then i can do a bit of rust converting and drilling holes for the new spot welds. has anyone used Jenolite rust converter?

Jenolite is a watered down phosphoric acid, better off with the real thing ;)

Clean it as much as possible then pour some on and work it in with a toothbrush (preferably not the one you,re currently using :D) leave it 10-15 mins, wipe off and re-apply, leave it to go black or grey, wipe off and paint :)

Well i have spent all day out there today. rust treating, drilling holes everywhere they are needed.cleaned up all the new metal and put red oxide everywhere except where welding is needed. swept, tidied and evan got the spring hanger in place:) im now exhausted but my dad is here. had a cuppa and showed him round his work. he seems to think getting that side done will be no problem so i did something right :D:D i think the other side may be a next time job [V] but i will have had an intensive welding lesson so i may well tackle it myself :) tomorrow dolly gets her first new metal. so exciting :D:p:p

Cracking job Paul, it's coming together nicely. Look forward to seeing the results of the welding session. Of course, the welding is the easy bit, it's the preparation which counts! :)

cheers m8, i think i did ok. all the holes i drilled lined up nicely. un fortunately the jacking point will only be replaced with an outrigger (no jacking point) as this can be added later (unless we get time of coarse) but the result hopefully will be 1 side rock solid :)

Glad to see you're making progress. Looking on the bright side, if you do have a go at welding it can't be any worse than Pankys . Are you still thinking about using the Xantia engine?

i dont know, i am very tempted as my zx has a cracking lump in her but she needs some welding doing. but the engine in dolly seems to be brill. so im now considering options. i might use the zx as a practise car for my welding so i can keep her (been a great car). so if thats the case i may stick with the engine in dolly. then if she proves to be no good i may go for a transit diesel or midi diesel. or maybe evan a mazda e2000 petrol lump (fast and pretty much bomb proof) loads to do today but most of the hard stuff is done. im going out to make a small floor section for above the spring hanger and get set up :)
