listen you can't have your cake and eat it, oh hell I'm getting as bad as the rest of the nutters on here. What is your name ? What is your quest? to save the world from being overrun by the aliens known as v dubs. How do you intend to do that ? By resurrecting the noble commer.

its a funny shape so i figure i would be best off trying to find someone who has cut out the bottom half of the light fixing (or the whole thing) why scrapping one. anyone have 1 laying about they may want to sell me:I

I love new bits - especially when they're old ones:)
The light cluster repair shouldn't be too difficult - a bit of snipping, forming, fettling and filling will have it right[8D]

How refreshing

yh thats my other option, just figured if i can get the bottom section we can just cut and weld lol. im chuffed with my new bits. may have to ad a small bulge to the bonnet but not sure yet lol

Yes Paul...and was advised by Tim and a few to go over that with waxoyl or similar....i guess hammerite is a great base to use and if you dont mind brushing any loose bits once a year its probably fine as it is...my opinion would be to NOT use underseal thoiugh as if it gets stone chipped the water will get behind it where you cant see it and will be secretly rotting your van away:D:(

i was told that about underseal:I. ive got half a big tub here[B)]. i was thinking it might be an idea to use hammeright as its what me and my dad use on the trikes and it seems to hold up pretty well against constant use [8D]. but i was considering using the underseal under the front arches and inside the bonnet and cowl (over the top of the soundproofing);) as i figured it would help keep the cab quiet lol. problem is its ugly looking stuff :D can it be painted over once its dry[?]:p

Paul i would hesitate to use underseal in the engine bay. Its like a tar and i think it could melt and stink if heat from the engine got to it. Also if you later need to paint in there its horrid stuff to get off. Sand blasting is about the only way to remove it. I dont think much will go on over it and stick.

Well...alright then, maybe just a little...

yh i was worried the heat may cause it to melt or worse, im now considering just painting up the engine bay and using 2 types of sound deadening, 1 rubber mat type underneath and maybe a foil type over the top of that if it will take. along with an exhaust wrap to help with the bay temp lol

yeh i would resist the undersell in the bay mate. yeh double soundproof layer will work.its all trial and error :) and remember ,its your van ;)

lol, yh still cant believe i own her:) lol. to be honest i have never really liked the look of underseal:I lol. i prefer the look of coloured paint or black hammerite anytime:p;). i went for a drive today and spotted a tatty old mazda e2000 van burried in the bushes. thinking i may have a closer look to see if there are any bits that could be adapted to fit ie engine and box, front seats, front brakes, rear axle and front anti roll bar ;)[^]
