not the best paint job as it was brushed on but once its welded up i will add a couple more coats. then flat it and primer it then top it off with some fresh paint :p

also attacked 1 of the side covers

7472487810_3ed86d6179_z.jpg

unfortunately the wind decided to cover the side cover in debris so i will need to work more at it :(

got half of the front hatch done then painted it for now to protect my work lol

i think i may have to cut the whole bottom out and try to make a new 1 as the rust just wont go lol not gotta clue how to tackle this. may evan try to buy a replacement in better shape

and i took a peak at her nose. someone had plopped filler in a few little holes so a small plate will be needed to repair it properly under ther heater vent

You'll see that there was even less left on Harveys:I
It went back on just as you see it with a little bit of trimming and persuasion to get the wheel arch seal right. I used a 1" wide sticky backed foamed seal around the edges and it doesn't leak at all. The foam stip came in a kit that Martin M does - there's enough for the front cover and the side ones too.

cool, thats some helpfull pics. now i know what shape the bottom should be.having a bit of a problem removing the bitted surface rust at min. can get all the rust off but it still leaves the pitting, i dont wanna risk the grinder but i think it may be the best way

Use a Scotch stripping wheel in the grinder. It makes this kind of thing a breeze! Only a couple of quid and a fraction of the effort.
They come in different grades and i found the purple to be the best.

Well...alright then, maybe just a little...

are they those honeycomb type things? if so i know where i can get them

A flapper disc is the best bet I've found althought the scotch wheel sounds promising. The flapper disc fits in an angle grinder and is much gentler than a grinding disc but shift rust like a demon:)

Another option if you have a grinder (or can find one for £2) is a knotted wire wheel. However, I am with Panky on this one, flap discs are excellent and I wish I had discovered them earlier.

You can find some information on this site, which I have found very informative and helpful for a whole range of techniques:
http://www.renault4.co.uk/gordini-inner-wing.htm

There is also a link about flap discs:
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/finishing-welds.htm

Hope you find them helpful.

These are the ones Paul. They come in every size for both grinder and drill. I find the grinder ones the best. Any hardware store should have them.

ah, i have seen them in the shops but was not sure what they were like. will have to get 1 and try it

Great day out yesterday [8D] had a lovely drive up to tim's through nice little villages and country parks. why i was there i got a load of really usefull bits that are gonna be a great help getting dolly sorted (will ad some pics later). was nice to meet you both guys :) and i also loved looking around some lovely vans. your slider has some seriously comfy seats tim lol thinking we might try something simmilar :D also met the Colonel and saw some great stainless repairs on his rear as well as some nicely stripped and painted inner arches ;) and finally got to meet kermit in the flesh. there is some amazing work going on with kermit, that rear axle setup is a very well thought out idea and i love the wheels. just a shame i somehow got lost BIGTIME on the way home. 90 miles up, 150 miles home [:(!] what a plank i can be lmao

lol, nah, we got a bit lost in the country, which i loved lol. then saw a sign for the a14 and thought "thats the road i came up" so i jumped on it then after about 30 miles we realised we were going to the middlands lol. that will teach us for having a loving chat on the way home lmao. but it was still a lovely drive, reminded me of cornwall alot. layed my new bonnet and cowl in place. looks so much better without holes lol
