Dolly The Autosleeper

Nice job Paul. I have sooooo been where you are as have others. The work you are tackling is hard stuff mate and will take loads of your patience and determination. People here will gee you up and keep you afloat when you feel your worst;). You're making good progress and seem to be a realist as oposed to a dreamer. Do yourself a favour though and invest in something a bit more 'up to the job' than just your bare hands in terms of your metal bends etc for your sills and outrigger's etc. You made a better job of yours than i made of my first attempt but it's a slow process trying to get neat folds etc. I bit the bullet and invested in one of these http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cmf24-sheet-metal-folder and it saved me a fortune in time and swear words:D once you have your measurements sussed out you whack it in the folder and bish bash bosh....Nice and neat folds in the metal. It's by no means on the scale of an experienced metal worker but for the inexperienced fool such as i it was/is, just the job.

thats a handy looking tool, may go that way, or a may just use the angle iron and workmate method. funny thing is i expected it to turn out much worse as i only used a concrete step edge. but it went well lol, will be clamping it up to sharpen the curves a bit asap, then i will start making as many bits as pos that i need so it saves time on welding days lol

Tbh, I invested in a sheet metal bender and in the end I hardly ever used it. I found a piece of angleiron and a good straight piece of oak far more versatile.

Get a decent set of clamps for holding your work tight and also find a scrap piece of rsj as they are great for clamping to and forming over.

stil no progress yet as been hectic getting ready for my boys birthday, but looky what someone sent me. a pic of dolly photoshopped in orange :p not sure on the black pop top but quite like the colour [^]

well, not much done but every little helps. managed to spend a couple of hours on my bonnet yesterday:I

took an hour and a half to strip off all the underseal with a paint scraper:p then i realised i did not have the right sander[:(!], mine is a flat rectangular sander and i really need a disk sander :(] but i cracked on for an hour or two and after about 15 sheets of sand paper i got a bit of the bonnet done

dolly's first bit of bare metal [^] lol. i also straightened out the lip around the hole ready for some repair work:D

think we have settled on a colour scheme now. a guy sent me this and i think it has grabbed us. mainly sticking with the oasis but breaking it up with a cream top half like this ;)

Yep green looks best[8D]
The rest of the engine cover repair should be easy, the big chunk chopped out to accommodate the old air filter is a bit of angled plate and the rest is just a big flat piece:).

How refreshing

yh, i was going to try and replace it with a new bonnet but it dont really seem worth it:). should be a simple repair. but i need an orbital sander or it will take me a week to sand the bonnet down[V]:(. i liked the green to start with, it was just "to green" ive always fancied a two tome motor with cream on top. so i figured this was a good sollution ;) lol. i think it looks a bit nicer like that :D

gives me something to aim for as an end product. what is better? sanding down or using paint stripper then a quick sand?
