It's had an SU conversion done:) an early carb but better than the original Zenith. I wonder how the manifold was modded to take it?
You should be able to take the bend off the carb inlet and fit a K&N filter - that wont poke through the lid:)

next time a take off the filter box i will snap a few pics for you to see mate, i guess thats why the bonnet has been cut, this means a center seat may not fit as the bulge at the back will need to be raised an inch higher than normal in order to shut, hmmm. does anyone have any picks of center seat clearance? must say 1 thing, was expecting it to be really slow but seems to pull quite well, although i only went about 250 yards down the road and back lol. i have an old cherry bomb backbox in my garage, im debating putting it on to see how it sounds

yh but i if i do that the bonnet wont quite close. the filter housing thats on it is about 2 inch's thick, and sticks up about an inch to high for a standard bonnet to close, so i would have to raise the bulge at the back stopping me from fitting a center seat or bench. i will grab a pic and upload it in a min to show you what i mean

Yes but I think there's a bend on the carb inlet that unbolts, then you can fit a K&N flat on the face of the carb.

there is a section you can take out of the carb but it looks like the throttle body is attached to it. but as you can see it sits to high for the bonnet.

The bit the filter fits onto should unbolt from the carb, there may be enough room to fit a K&N in there. You could also try unbolting the carb from the manifold and turn it round so it faces away from the engine.

I bought an engine which had an SU conversion done on it which looks just like this!

the guy I bought it from said he had to modify the engine lid to get it to fit so he added that to the pallet of stuff I bought. It turned out he had welded a Morris Minor hub cap into the engine lid which looked pretty neat.

I didn't use any of the conversion in the end!

yh that may work, will have to have a look at clearances tomorrow (if its not raining) i swear since dolly came home its rained pretty much non stop lol, its a shame they cut the bonnet as it looks in very good shape otherwise. i have noticed that it does not seem to like the choke much. starts better without it, have also noticed that when you start it sometimes it will keep winding til you back the key off then it fires straight up as you do it

yeah, seems to sit just to high. would happily leave it and addapt the bonnet as it looks and runs spot on but i dont think a center seat would fit then unless i raised the seat mounts at the front as well so the seat sat an inch higher than normal

Sounds like the starter is pulling the voltage down and you get a kick as you release the key. Probably running a bit rich as well.

yh it does smell quite strong of petrol when running. probably needs a good tune up. but what would cause the voltage drop, the battery is good so guessing either bad connection on starter (quite likely as ALL of the connections are a bit corroded) i have been working round replacing spade connectors and cleaning terminals but have not got round to the starter, or a dodgy starter? but dont see it being a starter problem as it winds over great and starts first time everytime

I have an induction kit with a KnN type filter you can have for the cost of postage and maybe a bottle of wine at a meet sometime...i will post a pic tommorrow and see what you think:D

yh will have a look at that, i have been thinking that i may keep this engine as it is a good one i think, but i still like the idea of the peugoat diesel, if i can figure out a way to mate the commer gearbox to it. i noticed today that i also have a rev counter.

yh that may do the trick m8 as could mount it elswhere and use a rubber pipe to route it, is it a kit like that or just the filter?
