dont get me started [V] i sooo love kermits exhaust note [^] im actually struggling to decide if i should put something a bit more modern and powerfull in dolly. i like the idea but i also like the O/D and origanality of the old lump. i do like the idea of a tuned 1.6 escort rs turbo lump and sierra gearbox. would be pretty special

success to a degree :I , all welded up and sounding much better [8D] but my manifold gasket is blowing [!] so need to get 1 on her, other than that i just need to add a couple of hangers. pics going on later. my old exhaust was a right state and very restrictive. she runs much happier now she can breath [^]

cheers mate but already done, had it on and off 5 times today getting it about right. all i have left to do is shorten the tailpipe a bit and add some hangers, t runs quite tight under the gearbox but it dont knock or rub so im happy

Well i have almost finished the rc40 just need to mount 2 hangers and maybe shorten the tailpipe :I

sits quite tight to the gearbox but no nasty noises :I

for some reason i ended up with the boxes quite close together, seems to do the job nicely though

All test fitted up and looking good [^] now all i have to do is strip and re paint the floor [xx(] really lets her down but at least she is solid so its all just tidying up [^]

it will sit slightly higher once the mounts are finished off but you get the idea

this is the only worry i have, the tailpipe sits about 4 inches from the tyre. im not sure if i should shorten it or weather it will be ok[?]

i did record a nice little video of dollies nice crisp exhaust note but photobucket is being a pig and wont upload it atm [V] there is a very slight blow on the manifold but thats just because the gasket is a bit knackered. new 1 will sort that in minuits [^]

on another note its worth noticing on these pics that you can ALREADY see surface rust coming through on the sills. this is because i did not have time to treat it pre mot. so anyone who is debating not rust treating your new panels, let this serve as a warning. you WILL regret it luckily i was expecting this and i already have stripper and Jenolite waiting [^]

I don't think it's about to melt the tyre It does stick out a bit though, I'd cut it back so it's level with the side of the van - cut at an angle so you get a nice oval end to the pipe

aha glad you pointed that out m8 [^] there is a good reason :I i have no outer sills in place so i decided to let it stick out a tad for now so that when i fit the outer sills i can make sure i cut it spot on sharp eye john

i had i nose round my engine today and spotted something that i cant believe i missed, the choke was not fully oppening when you let it off

when you release the cable the choke adjuster opens half way then rests on this pipe so it has had the choke half on constantly [V] i dont see how i could have possibly missed it :I what a plonker on the plus side she was warm when i noticed and running a bit lumpy, as soon as i fully released the choke dolly picked up and seemed alot happier [8D] she still seems to have a slight missfire but its intermittant. i do have a technical Q though[?]

My old exhaust was restricting her MAJORLY and i have been wondering if someone might have adjusted the timing in an attemp to compensate. thus affecting her firing ect, does this sound possible[?] i have checked plugs leads ect but all seem in fairly good order you may be able to hear it in the video above but she seemed fairly happy at the time lol

Most Commer engines have a little pop - pop - burble on tickover (I like that sound) so if that's what you're hearing it's not a miss fire. It the timing was out it wouldn't cause a miss, probably the plugs a little sooted up after running on half choke for so long:I

yh im happy with the sound, it seems to rev up and tick over pretty well most of the time but sometimes it will cough and hesitate a little when you rev it. i think its most likely just old plugs and cap. the cap is all clean inside but there are some pretty deep groves in the posts. my main concern is the water pump. i drove it 3 or 4 miles but i havent been any further yet as im worried. when i squeeze the top pipe it seems to feel empty. its holding water ok and it has never overheated ect on tick over so maybe its just me. is there a simple way to check that the pump is working and water circulating?

It sounds fine, the fact that you can squeeze the hose (oo er missus) just means it's not pressurising. If you're worried take the rad cap off when the engine is warm and give it a rev, you should see the water level dip a little and see some turbulence in the surface of the coolant, but I think your worrying about nothing

well dolly is booked in for her first show she will be attending the heavy horse show sunday 16th june at the museum of power in maldon. its not a major show but i get a funky horse brass to hang up in the back [8D]

she may also be attending the classic car stand for the Colchester Zoo 50th anniversary day

im hoping a mid resto commer will get there imagination going after all i wouldnt want to thump anyone for being rude to her [}]
