great stuff...been down and sorted it out with them. Had a photo I'd taken just before removing the engine and could just about work it out which lead went where and the position from that thankfully.
engines looking great...can physically see a big difference in the piston fit in the bores. Also said the block was really silted, one of the worst he'd seen so good we changed core plugs plugs. Cam chain ect all perfect put new bearings in although said they were pretty good all round. Only thing I had to order some valve springs today as they're all different lengths .
other bits...fly wheel has been lightened a tiny bit and valve cut 3 angle and a light head polish. Also fixing up the alloy rocker cover you kindly found for me Panky as need to move the oil filler to the other end, shorten it and get some long studs. Great seeing the guys there.. The bloke doing it used to work on them ..must be in his late 70's...proper engineer
Anyone think these are for Alloy or cast iron head? also are doubles an issue - when I mentioned it the guy said might be ok but would the cam take it ok? do you need a special cam?
There would be more pressure on the cam but not excessive, but you will need the valve caps to match the springs as I don't think there would be a groove for the inner spring in the standard ones.
good point Panky never considered that. Went for some standard from Speedies. Hopefully right ones as a couple of types but the chap sounded like he knew what ye was doing. As it's a Vogue engine it's the same as a Humber engine
getting there...lightened flywheel on, new clutch, lost a couple of side plate bolts so need to find some from somewhere (anyone know the size?). Exhaust manifold and a new alloy rocker cover are at the welders and back early next week. Hoping to fire it up next weekend...he says
I did Jim, just make sure it goes back on the passenger side
And if you use it to drop the engine back in put something between it and the lifting bracket - a piece of rag or something just to cover the edges.
been busy... going all woody Commer...new ply roof lights and slats (for the roof rack middle) ...bit of a gamble but reckon they'll look alright. Just need to work out a lifting and locking mechanism.
