Both are relevant, I've got a 'J' type on Harvey and a 'D' type on Bonnie so either could be fitted:). Many thanks for the research - very useful[^]

That's great that sunny boy, thanks though it sounds like alot more revs than that at 69 mph...maybe the diff is even worse than 5.12 if that exists

My diff ratio was 5.56:1 in my 62 so i'm still in the process of fitting a super snipe diff 4.55:1

[/IMG]
The one on the left is Commer

Both diff housings are the same but the snipe has 11 inch drums and sits on top of the springs, i'm just swapping out the guts so i can
hang the diff as normal under the springs and having the better ratio.
Cheers

That'll be interesting if it fits together, she pulls really well so could probably handle that drop. Keep us informed, guess they're lime rocking horse....

The super snipe diff I have, has a larger diameter and won't fit in the Commer axle [V]

Still curious about that Humber diff that Miss Piggy has, I asked about it at the time, but never got clarification. The centre carrier in the diff is fully enclosed, unlike the std Commer unit where you can see the planetary and pinion gears. This enclosed type of carrier was often used in Limited Slip Diffs, enclosing the clutch plates etc. Martin, does this diff look the same as the one you have? Someone put me out of my misery, if it is an "open" diff and not LSD, how do the gears get oil for lubrication?

Cheers

I found this old ebay ad for a Snipe diff, looks pretty standard to me.

So Mr Tim fitted a servo for me before my hols but it was unfortunately faulty so had to go away with it disconnected, kindly Mr Maltas replaced it Tuesday this week and all I can say is wow! I realise overall it doesn't make the brakes more effective but they certainly feel like it - thought the van was going to do a forward roll and I nearly headbutted the windscreen first time I put them on hard, great upgrade for the price - unfortunately it does highlight the slight pulling to the left on braking, next job :)

Been a while - guess I should add a new van to readers rides though and here it is tucked up pre-op :) probably will leave it until I've change the Vista interior and fixed the O/D and put a new diff in etc. - Q2 2015 job.

HOW TIDY IS YOUR GARAGE!!!!!! I believe that mine has a concrete floor, as yet I haven`t found it!

I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.

It comes under your 'stuff I might use one day' heading;)
I find the floor is a good place to leave things tools, rubbish, engine, parts, sawdust, old oil - there's probably another car in there somewhere:I

I have a two storey garage, all my crap goes upstairs in the man cave. Unfortunately that is full so the downstairs man lab is now full too.

Did say I'd post some pics of the lean to awning I went for - can't recommend it enough, very strong and well made, adjustable and 100% waterproof unlike many. It attaches simply to the gutter using figure of 8 clips that come with it, it even fits round the roof rack easily. It can take a little wind also as it has a pole that runs across the front which is rare...many sizes, this one being 3m length and 2.5m wide so just about runs the whole length of the van.

Was perfect over Easter as had a little rain and kept the fire warmth in at night....
